Good news....and

bad news, well maybe not so bad. Good news is; 8-1 had a full house today, was nice. Welcome back to all the students who participated in Longhouse.

The bad news is; if you were away at Longhouse you are still responsible for submitting missed work but, you knew that so I know you will work hard, and as Levi likes to say u will "Git 'er done".

Ciao

Hmmmm....

There were some very puzzled looks this a.m when we were trying to figure out the relationship between radius, diameter and circumference when we were given limited information. Fear not. The formulas are posted on the board. All you have to do is figure out which formula you need. When you have decided what you need, look on the board and find the formula that fits your equation; plug in the numbers where the symbols are and...voila, problem solved.

Sometimes you make it harder than it is. Keep it simple. Do one step at a time and you will be fine. Don't use shortcuts, it's a recipe for errors.

Remember, there is a Mid-Unit Review on Friday. Don't worry, I will leave the formulas on the board for all of you. I understand that it is hard to remember all of them and what they mean. So, don't worry, take a deep breath and do one step at a time. It will be fine...trust me.

Circles....

Today we started our unit on Circles. You must understand the relationship between radius, diameter and circumference. Once you have mastered that, you should have no problem in
this unit.

Homework

--math 'Extra Practice Sheet 1'

See you tomorrow.

Whew...

Another week gone. It's going by so quickly. It was a week with a very small class, due to Longhouse. |It's nice that so many of our students are participating. We will see you all again next week.

We finished up our unit on Data and have our test on Monday. Come prepared.

The speeches start on Monday and we are looking forward to some very interesting topics.

Have a good weekend. Gotta jet.

Histograms.......woo hoo!

Fun, fun, fun....

Click on the link on the right for a reminder on what a histogram looks like and how it should be constructed. Pay attention to the 'frequency and interval' diagram and how the information from the chart is transferred to the histogram.

Homework

-Math test on Data Management Monday
-Defining Moments, 'The Tiniest Guitar in the World'. Complete 'Try This' and questions 1-4
-Math Makes Sense, page 218-219, questions 1-4 (remember, if this is not handed in first thing in the a.m., you will not go out for your activity break)
-Central Tendency Handout (if you want to go out tomorrow, have it in by the a.m.)
-Speeches start Monday, be prepared

Remember...

There will be a mid-unit review tomorrow @ 9:00 a.m. and a final test on Data Management Friday, January 22nd. Please be prepared with a pencil, eraser and a ruler.

We had a very small class today. I wonder why. When students miss a class, they miss a teaching lesson and often find math difficult when they return as they missed important information. I encourage all of you to attend regularly.

8-1 will start their Oral Communications on Monday, January 25th. We will listen to 5 speeches each day. This assignment is not optional.

Homework
  • Marathon Man Reading
  • The Shape of Data
  • Explore Graphs
  • Speeches

Woo hoo!

8-1 worked very hard this week and I am sure they are glad it's Friday. A reminder to those students who have to hand in their paragraphs and math; remember, it must be on my desk by Monday @ 9:00 a.m. or you will not be able to go on your walk and you know you want to.

Kymberly and Josh; great job on those paragraphs. Keep it up.

Enjoy your weekend.

woot woot!!

Oh no!

I am hoping all students will come prepared to write a test. Some of you are experiencing difficulty with this unit. I encourage all students to seek assistance as often as you require it. If you do not, math will only become more confusing and frustrating. You must persevere. If you do, it will get better. I promise.

See you all tomorrow.

Bedlam with BEDMAS !!!

There were some frustrated students in math class today but, I am not sure why as we have done Order of Operations using the BEDMAS strategy already. The only difference is now we are doing them with fractions. We will be going over this again to make sure you all understand because there will be questions on the Order of Operations on your fractions math test on Thursday and Friday.
